If you see a smiley, easy going, tall man welcoming you as you step in, that’s probably Sharin. He’s a man who believes that every customer is a guest he wants to make feel at “home”, and in the spirit of festive giving, he’s got a few simple entertaining tips that will be a hit with the ladies. Gentlemen, are you listening?
1. Who is Sharin?
Someone very easy-going and outspoken.
2. How and why did you get into the F&B industry, specifically service?
I started off as a part time waiter back in 2000 at an Italian restaurant in Millenia Walk. It was an eye-opener for me after I joined Oceana fine-dining at the Indoor Stadium which was the place I learned a lot as a bartender and service staff.
3. Most rewarding and challenging part of the job?
The most challenging was when I was enrolled for a cocktail and speed bottle competition. It was very intense as I competed with seasoned bartenders and it was my first time too. Still, I did manage to be in top 5 in cocktail category.
4. Best memory of your job?
The best memory ever was being part of the pioneer team for Brotzeit German bar. We managed to see first-hand how beer is brewed from scratch.
5. What does service mean to you?
Great service is a journey from the moment customers step into our “home”, till the moment they leave. I treat every single person as a guest, and not a customer, as they come to our house for a visit, be it a special occasion or simple gathering. I will do my very best to make things happen for them.
6. What does restoration mean to you?
We work hard in our daily lives and we tend to forget our nutritional needs for our body. By eating fresh food products, we restore the necessary energy for us to go back to our daily grind.
7. Tell us something we don’t know about you.
I love outdoor activities especially at the beach. Somehow it helps me to relax and clear my mind.
8. What is your dream?
My dream is to have my own bar. I just love guests to hang out at the bar, be it before or after dinner. It’s the best place to catch up on our daily lives.
9. Any advice for those wanting to get into the industry?
Every day is a learning day no matter how much experience you have in the industry whether from school or from work. Always be humble.
10. Any tasty yet easy tips for beverages during this festive season?
I would suggest a Champagne Cocktail. It consists of Sambuca and brown sugar, topped with Champagne and few drops of bitters. Or a White Christmas Martini which consists of vodka and white chocolate liquor. Both are simple and easy to drink and a hit with the ladies.
In the spirit of Christmas, here is Sharin’s take on a tasty and creamy Eggnog recipe. Eggnog is traditionally consumed over Christmas season every year, as long as you have eggs, sugar, milk, and cream in your fridge, you can have eggnog anytime the craving hits.
20ml Old Spice Dark Rum
1 Egg Yolk
20ml Sugar Syrup
A sprinkle of Cinnamon Powder
1. Simply pour all ingredients in a chilled cocktail shaker
2. Perform a vigorous dry-shake for 15 seconds to produce a nice, frothy texture
3. Pour into glasses and serve with a sprinkle of Cinnamon Powder
